There is so much that can be said about Welcome to Pine Point. First and foremost, the amount of the love that just radiates from this project is palpable. There is so much care that goes into each and every segment of this project that perfectly creates this yearning for a simpler time. Even as an outsider, I found myself feeling nostalgic for Pine Point. I can also appreciate that the project recognized its bias as much of the negative associations with this town have been erased in an effort to create a collective memory for Pine Pointers
Secondly, as someone who is also from a small town, I couldn’t help but project while watching this project. Similar to many others who come from rural areas, the primary goal of the first eighteen years of my life was to leave my hometown of Alamosa, Colorado. Although I was surrounded by beautiful mountains, all I thought about was what lay behind them. Now after being away from home for the past three years I have grown to truly appreciate where I’m from. Especially since it is so different compared to where my peers are from. That being said, I still negatively speak about Alamosa when describing it to my friends and classmates hahaha. It’s a force of habit I suppose. However, in an effort to show it some love, I’ve attached a few photos of Alamosa from the internet.
This project is truly an inspiration to me as a media maker.
